It turns out, the only one who had bothered to remember was out sick, so that little reminder she'd set up in Outlook was moot. Oops. Well when she got back, she threw together a little celebration for the following Monday. Too bad things didn't quite go as planned.
Monday, unknown to any of us, was the day planned for some major layoffs. This put a pretty big damper on things. So we celebrated quietly in the break room, as others were cleaning out their desks. Pretty sad. But I still felt special; after all, i got two birthday presents from work: a cake and to keep my job (for now)!!
