Thin Mints & Independence

So I was so, SO excited when I came into work this morning and saw that the Girl Scout cookies that I'd ordered had finally arrived! Not one to wait for the perfect opportunity, I opened them right up enjoyed a few delicious morsels of my favorite cookie, the Tagalongs: a perfect combination of crunch, peanut butter, and chocolate. Mmmmmm good!!

Then, not to be unfair, I took out the box of Thin Mints. As I pulled out the tube/roll of cookies and indeed, it is notably shorter. Hmm, strange. Turns out my suspicions are correct! I guess even the Girl Scouts of America of feeling the stress of tough economic times.

In other news, today is Texas Independence Day! In 1836, 173 years ago today, the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed in Washington-on-the-Brazos! Interestingly enough, the Texans weren't just being prideful, under Mexico they were denied among other things:

  • freedom of religion
  • the right to keep and bear arms
  • trial by jury
  • no public education
Oh yeah, and that whole military dictatorship under Santa Anna business. Anyway folks, Happy Independence Day!!

i never knew that my favorite girl scout cookie and my favorite state could be so sweetly combined. Thanks for reminding me of both... now, I think I'll go eat a thin mint. I kinda felt bad that I was almost eating a whole sleeve in one setting. Glad to know that it's really not that bad!

We bought some Samoas this year and were bummed that there were only FIFTEEN of them in the box. That works out to 23 cents per cookie. Sheesh, economic downturn.

When we went to visit my in-laws I discovered that melting Andes mints and then dipping Ritz crackers into the goop and then freezing it makes basically a Thin Mint. I'd never heard of that before! Cheap, tasty, and available year-round.

tagalongs are indeed my favorite as well but STOP BRAGGING!!! we didn't get one single little girl come to our door NOR are they selling them in front of the grocery like they always do-i am so UPSET that i got robbed out of girl scout cookies this year. though to be honest it's probably for the best :) enjoy your cookies. i will be only thinking about eating the best cookies in the world while you are enjoying them :(

I bought some Samoas on Saturday- you're right, noticeably shorter! Or maybe the box was bigger to my little kid hands. Either way, the girl scouts are saving my hips from exploding. Do NOT read the label!

I'm a bit upset but not with my Mum. With such a great article only one person commented on the most important piece of info in the article.....The independence of Texas. Although I am up here in CO, my heart is still in TX. At least TX is still a RED state and not like this blue state I live in now; although i do live in a red county. God Bless Texas.
